I'm no expert but I do spend some time watching the Crime Channel. IIRC info regarding past convictions is usually barred by the judge as being “prejudicial”.Of course I could be wrong...hopefully we can get a Freeper who's a lawyer to weigh in on this.

The one guy who survived his encounter with Kyle ... the one now called Lefty ... would be a witness in the case. He would certainly be asked why he was carrying a gun, whether he was legally permitted to carry it (he wasnt), and WHY he was prohibited from carrying a gun.
At that point the defense attorney would say: Were you aware that your fellow rioter Shorty Rosenbaum was also a convicted criminal who spent a decade in prison in Arizona, and was a registered sex offender?
Even if the prosecution objects and the judge orders the jury to ignore the question, it would be a devastating line of questioning.
