I’m sorry to hear of his death. I saw the movie on a flight and I thought it was very hokey, what used to be called “blaxploitation.” But at the same time, it had black villains as well as heroes, so it wasn’t a complete farce.

He was handsome, had a great voice, and even with a shallow part seemed to have an empathy that enabled him to connect with the audience and not be a cardboard character. He probably had the gift to move on to the wider world. I’m sorry that he didn’t get the chance.
