I hear those Carrington events were quite grand. (George Peppard was the first Blake Carrington, I'm told).

Almost inevitable at some point in time. Might not be in our lifetimes, but easily could.
Couple that with the possible intentional EMP attack and this type of disaster moves up on the "possible" scale considerably.
