A Des Moines Black Lives Matter organizer has been arrested in Johnson County.
University of Iowa police arrested Matthew Bruce late Monday night following incidents at two locations.
Arrest records show the first happened at the university president’s residence. The second was at the Iowa Pentacrest.
Bruce is charged with nine felony counts of assault with intent to injure a peace officer and one count of interfering with official acts.
KCRG reports criminal complaints show during protests, he pointed a laser beam light into the eyes of multiple officers, causing injuries requiring medical treatment. Officers approached him and asked him to stop, but he ran away. Officers then arrested him at 11:40 p.m.
