Apples 4-for-1 stock split goes into effect at the close of trading Friday.
In theory, stock splits like this one dont mean much. If today you own 100 shares worth $500 each, on Monday you will have 400 shares worth $125 each. But it turns out that splits matter more than youd logically think.
The last Apple (ticker: AAPL) split was 7-for-1, in June 2014. There were 2-for-1 splits in February 2005, June 2000, and May 1987. Had Apple never split the stock, the current share price would be around $28,000. Apple says the decision to split the stock reflects a desire to make the stock accessible to a broader base of investors.
With the split, Apples share count jumps to 17.1 billion.

Yes, but it also allows smaller investors to get in on the action. It does nothing much for current investors. Thus raising more capital...............
Yeah but a dividend is just dividend distribution amount divided by number of shares. If you 4x the shares but hold the dividend payment constant, everyone would be getting 1/4th of their Norma per-share dividend.
I own exactly ONE share... which means I will have 4 Monday. It’s been fun watching the value go up! I’m curious what to expect next week.
Well - not at the moment it happens, but more often than not, it stimulates demand for the stock at the more affordable price, which typically drives the stock price higher, especially with a company that has been consistently meeting earnings and growth estimates and goals.
