This is a crazy nightmare story. I am not a doctor, but having had it done many times I know it only takes a minute to hook up an EKG, where they obviously would have seen a heartbeat on the readout.
If they worked on her a half hour they had the EKG hooked up and she was probably flattened with an occasional artifact.
