A few years ago, my cousin had been in verbal hand to hand with her 17 year old daughter. It had been going on for a few years with lots of verbal and physical threats from the girl.
The final straw was that she demanded her inheritance NOW! It was legally hers, she said.
So mom and dad gave her $10,000 (hardly all but the girl was too ignorant to know better).
She moved out and blew thru the money in about a month. Came begging to move back home. They would not let her home until she enrolled in a school and cleaned up her act. Took her a month or 2 to decide mom and dad were right

We did not throw out our defiant teen at 16...she did! and after the police explained they could not really enforce anything I played along (I knew where she was going)...but my big sis came to town and asked why there was a room with all of her stuff strown about. She said didn’t she “move out”? we loaded up a box van in the driveway with all of her things and I told her to come pick up the rest of her things within the week.
She went to live with a lib girlfriend of mine from high school who did not back me as a parent.
After experiencing her lack of help around the house she too after 6 months had put her things in the garage and told her to move out.
I eventually did let her move in once or twice if she was in school but it never worked out long term. She has been on her own managing her own affairs for some time now. That girl was averse to housework...but she is keeping her own place clean.
