A group of people are to receive €1,200 “universal basic income” per month for three years in a new German study.

Germany is launching a new trial to find out how universal basic income affects the attitude and lives of those who receive it.

As part of the Pilotprojekt Grundeinkommen (Basic Income Pilot Project) study, 120 people will receive €1,200 each month for three years. Researchers will compare their experiences with another group of 1,380 people who will not receive the cash. […]

The aim is to gain a scientific understanding on how people’s behavior and attitudes change when they receive money regularly without conditions, reported Spiegel who interviewed DIW researcher Jürgen Schupp.

Do those who receive it become lazy, or creative? Do they shorten their working hours or give up their jobs altogether? Do they use the extra time and money only for themselves, or do they get involved with communities for the benefit of society? …

Re-unification has worked out very poorly for the West Germans.

If they know they’re Guinea pigs and are being monitored, that will influence their behavior too.

“The aim is to gain a scientific understanding on how people’s behavior and attitudes change when they receive money regularly without conditions, reported Spiegel who interviewed DIW researcher Jürgen Schupp.”

1.They will end up not appreciating it.
2.Soon they will demand more
3. Once everybody gets, $1200 will be the new zero, as prices will naturally increase
4. It will be one more reason for invaders to invade.
5. Druggies and deadbeats will multiply

What else did I miss?

Based on the way they constructed the ‘test’, I would say three things come out of this:

1. Money doesn’t buy happiness.

2. The crowd in the test without the extra money will prove that they did OK.

3. The crowd getting the extra money will prove that they never had a plan on making better use of the money, and the plan would have made better use.

All of this comes to economic knowledge/coaching and making people smarter on saving and spending. If you (as the government or some private entity) would spend more effort on teaching people better habits, they’d save money and be more thrifty.

Wait... isn’t this called ‘welfare’?

We already KNOW what happens. A bunch of people who need it are overwhelmed by the bunch of people who sit on their asses and become unproductive for GENERATIONS.

There was a TV documentary of one family that got a million dollars per year- the matriarch had as many kids as she could, from age 15, collecting more money each time she had a kid. Those kids grew up and started have their own at ag 15... eventually they were all living in a mansion paid for with welfare.

To give $1200 per person they will have to tax an extra $1200 per person on average.

Per the last paragraph of the article, 140,000 private donors coughed up the money for this “study”.

But there is absolutely no info given on these supposed donors.

Hmmmm.....

I am suspicious now that I think of it- this is only 120 people? That’s a small price to pay to promote their liberal agenda- “See how good these 120 hand-picked people did in our experiment? That proves everyone will do as good! Ipse dixit.”

Fire up your translators, if you’re not already fluent, and have a look.

You missed the part where “the government will agree to pay when you when you volunteer for sterilization”. I truly believe UBI will happen, but it will be predicated on “volunteer birth control”.

I’d be on board with BC implants as a condition for govt assistance. If you cant afford to house and feed yourself now, you shouldn’t have more kids.

Our system encouraged welfare queens to have as many kids as possible. The fastest ticket to idiocracy...

Gonna be an unpopular opinion but hear me out. I’m actually less opposed to UBI than I used to be...

Ok now before you all start throwing tomatoes at me, the way I see it, IF we are going to have some kind of social program, I like that this is money that goes straight to people, like the stimulus checks earlier this year. I’d rather have that than giving vast sums to the Department of Education or Department of Housing and Urban Development, where who even knows where the money is really going to after all the bureaucracy—but I can probably bet it’s not going to anything making people better off.

In a perfect world, I’d rather have less social programs altogether, but since we’ve crossed that bridge a long time ago, I’d be okay with making heavy cuts in the bureaucracies in exchange for a moderated form of direct payments as a social safety net. Now if it turns into what Kamala wants where it’s just a way to drain the productive class and reward the welfare class, then of course I’m going to oppose it.

I think most people will “agree” to this. Environmentalist will push population control, most fiscal conservatives will agree with your assessment.
