Cocked and Locked: With a 1911 you have the .45 magazine loaded with a round chambered and the hammer cocked fully back and gun holstered with side safety locked up in the safe position. Pull from the holster and the thumb simultaneously lowers the side safety lock. This is what makes the redundant grip safety on the Colt .45 allow for cocked and locked.
