One has to wonder why assault weapons from China are being smuggled into the United States.

Could it be because smuggled weapons = no background checks and only the bad guys have guns? /sarc

Weeks away from Sept. 17th Siege. The language is very clear...not a vigil, not a protest, but a siege.

History will call it: 50 days in DC

5 Jun: Foreign Policy: As U.S. Injustices Rage, China’s Condemnation Reeks of Cynicism
Beijing is no ally to those fighting for justice—it’s simply defending its own injustices.

Last Friday afternoon, Trump held a press conference to denounce China’s plan to devise a national security law to crack down on Hong Kong’s dissents...
That night, after Trump’s speech, major cities across the United States were engulfed in flames, National Guards were mobilized, and protesters clashed with riot police near the White House. The president reportedly hid briefly in a bunker...

Last I remembered, there’s a huge surge of demand for weapons of all kinds. 10,800 semi-auto rifles (assuming they’re not actually select fire weapons) is probably at least $3m wholesale (assuming just under $300 each). Even for Sturm, Ruger, that’s just under 1% of a year’s sales (i.e. not a rounding error):

These rifles are just the smuggled contraband they found. It’s likely there are other shipments that got through. Handguns and rifles of all kinds are either out of stock or significantly marked-up from pre-riot prices. That’s an ideal environment for smugglers looking to fill a supply void. My guess is that any weapons that got through would probably make the rounds at gun shows and local gun stores (or even major retailers, once the appropriate paperwork has been finagled).
