Gov. Greg Abbott: Texans Should Wear Masks in Their Own Backyards Until COVID-19 Vaccine is Ready

Abbott demanded last week for Texas residents to wear masks at all times, even if they are in their own backyards, to stop the spread of COVID-19. “People need to understand that until we have better medications that can treat COVID-19, until we have the vaccines that will end COVID-19, people must maintain vigilance, even when just gathering with family members, to make sure you do continue to wear masks,” he added.

I am tired of people who think masks are going to do ANYTHING at all to stop a virus. Educate yourself and stop being a tool for the democrat party.

“That doesn’t say anything about the effectiveness of masks or social distancing; it says a lot about the effectiveness of mandates.”

Second highest rate of compliance (67%) in the USA, and it hasn’t worked. Even 50% compliance would create a change IF masks worked, because 50% of the people WOULD be protected. Or at least not transmitting disease. But...it didn’t do SQUAT.

If people wear seatbelts, it starts saving lives right away. Measurably. And more compliance has resulted in fewer deaths. Measurable outcomes. The more they were used, the fewer died.

Masks just make people feel good about behaving in an otherwise normal manner, which is why folks who wear masks are LESS likely to wash hands, social distance, etc. Masks are their magic talisman.

We’d be better off if folks didn’t wear masks because they would then actually practice things more likely to help - like social distancing (called “good manners” in Arizona), washing hands well when you get home, etc.

I totally agree that gov Abbot has gone through the looking glass on this issue-right into abject terror and paranoia-I do believe there may be more to it than he’s a rino, he’s a bushie, he drank the koolaid, etc...

Although he tries to minimize the appearance of it, Abbot is a paraplegic who ambulates with a wheelchair-he has a very limiting and serious disability-because of it, he may well have conditions that make him more vulnerable to the Chinese virus than most, and that fact is influencing his thinking on the mask/vaccine thing, even though it shouldn’t.

He ought to leave his concerns for his own well-being aside when making public statements about what the majority of Texans should do-he did not, and that made his statement(s) arbitrary, not particularly logical-and not at all appreciated or likely to be complied with...

Abbott is fine. I think the backyard comment was just to emphasize the request to wear a mask.
I am not a mask Nazi but doing my best to wear one in public areas. The political implications of this entire issue is insane on all sides.
