Correct, and great point, Matt. Trump may be President, Barr may be AG, but the states and lower jurisdictions still have a great deal of power. The Lefty jurisdictions can do ANYTHING they want to us short of murder, and get away with it, at least for a period of time.

So three people on felonies for a $50 phone? Or $16.67 apiece?
The indictment indicated the felony charges are a) robbery b) tampering with evidence and c) obstructing justice
None of those particular charges make any reference to the dollar value of property that might have been taken or destroyed since robbery is considered a crime against a person, not property (this is consistent across the US), and the other two are crimes against the justice system, which the law takes a dim view of.
That’s exactly what you want if the system is being fairly applied.
Ohio is also apparently a one-party consent law for secret recording—as the mother was doing.
But if wrestling a phone from a family member who is a guest in your home, recording your conversations secretly is enough to trigger all this—includng the threat of taking the children—then the law once again is an ass.
It’s very easy to trace the feminist weaponization of family law over the past 30 years. The idea was to ‘empower women”, but on occasion a woman will get caught up in the net, which appears to be the case here.
Ohio seems a little more broad in that it includes one’s parents in the category of domestic victims, but that’s only a misdemeanor charge in this case.
Re: the CPS part, I’m pretty sure that Ohio is like every other state I’m aware of, if there’s a DV charge filed, CPS has to look into the case as a matter of policy. In this case, again, it looks like they did that in a pro-forma way, and the kids went home with the parents.
