We
haven’t had a war where the draft was truly “necessary” for US defense since 1945. There was no reason that young Americans should have been compelled to fight in any of the wars since then. While we were fighting bad guys in those wars, our national independence and freedom wasn’t directly threatened. We should have made due with volunteers in all those wars, as we recognized by ending the draft while exiting Vietnam
I agree with you. They will not be forced into certain roles they are not well suited for, but they will be forced to serve in some capacity.
