I don't think they know how it happened. I don't think its gas and oddly it didnt effect the houses around it even though they are close.

Might have been an Atifa arms depot.

It was an awfully finding of cause. Also, I would think that the term ‘massive explosion’ might need to be set aside for a while after that Beirut blast.

NG is heavier than air and settles at the lowest point, being the basement.
Some homes can actually be connected through the cracks in the soil to leak NG to other basements.
In a basement blast, the force goes up, not out to the side.

if it accumulated in a basement or crawl space and then somehow ignited it is easy to see how only 1 or 2 homes were destroyed as it was directly below them

Wow. Only one death. This must be a working class town. Thank God.
That being said, Ill never have gas, apart from my own, in my house.

Meth is a hell of an explosive.

This happened a few years ago in Lincoln NE. A guy trying to kill his ex-wife, turned on all the gas in the house. Apparently, the plan was to lure her over to the house and have it explode when she came in. Well, it did.
It blew her across the street and she died sometime later as did he. The house looked a lot like this scene. Completely obliterated.

I don't know--a natural gas explosion can be ENORMOUSLY destructive, as anyone remembers from the natural gas line explosions from 2014 and 2015 in New York City. A home meth lab isn't going to add much from the explosive effects.
