I don’t watch Lou Dobbs but I agree 110% with your rant. I would say the same thing with regard to a goodly number of FReepers (who are thankfully separated by a forest) because there is nothing more illlogical than “argument from ignorance”.
Dobbs (or others unnamed) are essentially saying “Because this persons opinion cannot be proven to be false, it must be true!” Why not instead analyze the logical basis of the opinion, the evidence used to support it, the credibility of the person stating it, etc. That is “logical thinking”, and that’s what analysts or whatever Dobbs is ought to be doing. FR is a forum, much of what is posted here is opinion, and that’s fine - just don’t confuse opinion with fact.
Arguing from facts is intelligent debate, arguing from the absence of facts is a logical fallacy.
Exactly! Can you imagine Mark Levin saying the Durham investigation is going to be a complete whitewash based on someone’s opinion? I can’t.
