The sex of future tuatara depends heavily on the temperature surrounding the eggs, and global warming could lead to too many males being born, sending the reproductive cycle into an imbalance.

I think what hurt the tuataras most in the recent past was the arrival of small mammals from other parts of the world, which ate their eggs.

IIRC, there were originally 16 orders of reptiles of which 4 still have living representatives.

These four are

(1) the order which includes crocodiles and related species
(2) the order which includes turtles
(3) the order which includes snakes and lizards
(4) the order which is solely represented by the tuatara
