I discovered a COVID-19 tracker tag today when I opened my Bing search engine app on my Apple phone. Ill try to post the screen shot in the comments but it doesnt seem to want to accept it at this point. My phone shows that the tracker app is turned off in the settings, but I wonder if this bing app has been tracking me? Anyone else run into this on any other apps?
Sorry to ask, but why in the world are you using Bing? It’s terrible.
Remedy:
Use Duck Duck Go

Well, there’s your problem, right there.
Bing > google
It probably is if your location is turned on. But the wuhan app is probably not unless you turn it on.
[But then does it retroactively go back to everywhere you have been?]
I find for my searches that Bing is now the equivalent of Google in terms of quality of results.
My "search engine flow" Is now: 1. DuckDuckGo, then if that doesn't work, 2. Bing.
Microsoft may not be much better policy-wise than Google, but I think right now it's important to take down the major Silicon Valley Tyrants as much as possible.
I actually like it and I didnt want to use google. At the time I thought the others werent as easy. Im no longer using it though.
Thank you for the info.
Android put one on my phone. I quickly sought advice to turn it off.
I suggest your next phone will not have the option in allowing you to turn it off, so you should probably replace your phone very soon so you still have that option.
My State Farm discount app uses location so I need to keep it
Compton yodeler > Harlem yodeler
You only "need" to keep it if you are willing to sell your privacy for a discount on your insurance.
The choice is yours, of course.
I use Startpage on my desktop and laptop along with AdBlocker and uBlock Origin. Neither of those shows anything of that sort on startpage.com as far as I can tell.
I only use third rate search engines because I’m virtuous.
I’m glad you’re virtuous too.
Thats uncharacteristic of you ... for what its worth, DDG finds things very well and without bending the results left.
I read an article awhile back that Android and Apple both have them after they did updates some time in the past, I know mine is off (for now) but when you go to settings and then choose google, it shows a covid tracker. Everybody I have told with an Android looked and it was there. My mom said her Iphone has it also but not sure how to find in on an Apple phone.
