Ammunition has outperformed silver in the past 12 years. That is a fact. However, it is a feast or famine market characterized by rapid periods of scarcity and long periods of large inventories.

I am one of the brand new gun owners, courtesy of Democrat leadership. Without a lot of research, I bought a Taurus 2Gs. I wish I would have purchased a 3Gc. Heck, for that matter, a Glock 19 or a Sig Sauer P320 would have been pretty sweet.
But it is what it is.
So, I have >500 rounds of 9mm.
What scenarios do you think I might need that much?
Zombie Apocalypse? The rounds would come in handy.
Neighbourhood invasion by armed Antifa fascists? How many shots would I fire with my little gun before I get taken out?
Hot civil war (yes, we are in a cold civil war right now)? Taking on heavily armed insurgents?

Nice post, and a BTT. Like most buying panics, this one is making those of us who thought we were pretty comfortable see our stashes as barely adequate now. That’s part of the reason that demand is up, and it’s a tough impression to shake; and it also makes people (guilty as charged, Yer Honor) who don’t inventory their ammo lockers very often pay new attention under new conditions. Bulk 5.56 is up 50% from the last time I purchased a case. Ouch.

Hair raising, Matt, Thx. Really hair raising. My wife and I are in our 70s now. We’ve made all we’re going to make. We’ve saved all we’re going to save. If some a$$hole, or group of a$$holes, have decided to manipulate the dollar until it’s worth nothing, we’re on the street. So we’re VERY concerned.
I’ve purchased many cases of ammo in the past in different calibers (because I like guns, hey!) in case the SHTF. But I never really intended to use it primarily as moolah. And in California, I can’t order it pretty much under the radar through the mail anymore, as in the old days.
Crap! All my guns and all my ammo (except the first few rounds I’ve saved for the first commie bastard through the door), and all our money, is going to end up in the hands of communists anyway, no matter what precautions I took, crap!
That said, there are still ARs available.
Don't discount bolt action rifles, shotguns and .22lr.
I you're late to the game those are all very viable options, with ammo still available and will be sufficient in the vast majority of cases.
