We should pass a law requiring all engaged couples to work a year on renovating a house together - if they survive, they can get married.

LOL ... 3 months to the day after we met, I started a business flipping houses with my girlfriend. We got engaged on our 1 year anniversary, and married 2 1/2 years after we met. We have done a number of flips and BRRRs as well as now getting into commercial multifamily syndications. I completely agree that had I done something like this with wives 1 and 2, they would not have been wives 1 and 2.

Ever see the movie "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long?

It's along your premise and worth a watch.

The closest the wife and I ever came to blows...spray painting kitchen cabinets in her condo before we were married.

We should pass a law requiring all engaged couples to work a year on renovating a house together - if they survive, they can get married.

We have lived in this home for over 40 years, and it was about 10 years old then.

The first year we added a new master bedroom suite. I and the architect decided on the shape and size as per the lot and city zoning.

That was when/where we decided she got to rule/decide on carpet/drapes, wall finishings and how to decorate. I made the decisions on structure with the architect.

About 3 years, later we re did the family room. Again, I dealt with structure and she made the decisions on everything else. We spend most of our waking hours here, and her interior is basically the same as original. She decided on a new love seats and divans and curtains. We are now on the 3rd set of couches etc.

About 12 years ago we redid the kitchen. One adult son was a chef and showed her how a small well organized kitchen was best/better for a senior head cook, her. People are amazed at how much great food can come from such a small kitchen. She and our former chef son do a fancy dance with 2 ovens, a 6 burner gas stove top and a heavy duty microwave. Our 20 year old Grandson has become very good at that waltz. I stay in the family room or out on our deck. Ready to empty garbage cans, to wash pots and pans and whatever non cooking is require unless I grill.

The DIL’s prepare desserts or salads and spend a lot of time with me in the family room or on our deck. Never get in the way nor make suggestions to chef’s with sharp knives when they are working.

About 4 years ago we had a new roof put on with new insulation, and 4 new skylights that open when the outside is nice. Our oldest son is a master in figuring out how to make a place comfortable and not give PG&E all of your money. He and our contractor put in two new furnaces/ac and only one is used unless we have company. Our PG&E bills are about 1/3 what they used to be as we live in like an attached apartment.

This summer, we had a our deck and front entry re decked by the DeckMaster in our area. Spent about as much on that as all the previous redos.

We have seen many divorces over the years during remodels and replacing a destroyed home from fires or floods.

I have an office, and we close the office doors when guests come. It hasn’t changed in over 40 years.

So your suggestion might eliminate a lot of divorces.

“they can get married.”

replace with:

“they can get married and have sex.”
