Irvine residents Alan and Alex Stokes, both 23, face one felony count each of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor count of falsely reporting an emergency...
The twins YouTube channel has some 4.8 million subscribers.
The brothers allegedly made two attempts to film a bogus bank robbery on Oct. 15, 2019.
The pair was walking around dressed in all black, wearing ski masks and carrying duffle bags stuffed with cash, pretending theyd robbed a bank, as their videographer filmed, investigators said.
When they called an Uber around 2:30 p.m., the driver refused to pick them up because he was unaware of the ruse. A bystander who saw the events unfolding thought the Stokes brothers were trying to carjack the driver, authorities said.
Irvine police responded and ordered the driver out of his car at gunpoint, but he was released after the officers determined he wasnt involved. Police did issue a warning to the Stokes brothers about their conduct, but they were also let go, according to the DAs office.
Four hours later, the brothers executed the same hoax on the campus of UC Irvine, and police fielded emergency calls regarding a bank robbery, prosecutors said.
The Stokes brothers each face up to four years in state prison if convicted as charged.

But the only thing that will getcha banned from YouTube is saying that you think HCQ might work.
This is terrible reporting. It’s not clear to me that they did anything illegal. Being foolish isn’t illegal.
It’s funny until someone gets hurt.
Good way to get shot.
They remind me of Thing 2 and Thing 1 from the Dr. Seuss book.
It is amazing they were let go with a warning the first time. Too bad they were not smart enough to thank their lucky stars and wise up. But they pulled the same prank again 4 hours later!
The felony charges on their records will not be much help in a future job search, but I doubt this matters to these two.
Stupid actions matter! (I guess I am allowed to post this)
Oh, but never, ever bring up TikTok in such a negative context if you wanna continue to work in media.
/bingo
Falsely reporting an emergency is illegal, their stupidity is showing.
23? I wasn’t too much older than these guys when I was married and had a child on the way.
These “prank” videos are all the rage. And most of them are about as real as wrestling. However they are getting more and more outrageous and it’s only a matter of time until someone ends up hurt or dead.
Too bad a trigger-happy cop didn’t terminate them!
They overplayed their Asian Privilege Cards.
If the twins were Black, Latino or a pair of Irish twins, they would have been locked up the first time.
In this country, it’s still somewhat rare to discover Asians acting out as bank robbers.
As far as good old fashioned embezzelement or extortion against one’s own race, that is not unusual, and does happen in all ethnic groups.
They are trying to get themselves killed or imprisoned.
