We see the same pressure to lower blood pressure and blood sugar and put everyone on a low salt diet even when their bp is ok and their kidneys are fine.
Years ago they did a study of treating or not treating very high cholesterol, and sure enough, the heart attack rate went down, but the death rate was the same, because one non treatment group had more deaths from cancer, and another group had more deaths from homicide/suicide.
Like most docs, I am cynical, but what pressured us into treating was the threat of a malpractice suit.
Ditto for telemedicine...we used to do it all the time then were pressured not to prescribe over the phone, and now docs are pressured not to see patients even those who need to be seen, but just do a quick phone call.
Makes me glad I am retired.
“Lies My Doctor Told Me”
Dr Ken Berry
I am off all Meds, lost 65lbs (not necessarily in that order)
As a 65 yr old White Male that just a few years ago ON many MEDS my own Dentist wouldn’t even clean my teeth because of my High BP... I now have Zero problems have “sorta normal BP” (just measured it this minute 139/82 (not ideal) but beats the crap out of my 195/105 when I had to take BP meds)
Cholesterol is not a concern as I eat enough Saturated Fat from good clean sources (I do not consume Any Vegetable Oil on purpose) I always want my Omega 3 (Cod Liver Oil), got to where I actually like the taste
Basically I just quit eating Sugars and Vegetable Oils everything kinda just fixed itself after that (and I lost 65lbs of belly aka visceral fat). Pants from a 42” Waist to 36”... from XXL to L on my shirts.
Low Carb Beer is a blessing because unflavored water gets boring ;^)
