14 year old girls can vote? Things are worse than I had previously feared.

US gov’t to ban TikTok.

So if you want to watch 14 year old girls dancing, you’ll need to get on a plane with Bill Clinton

Now, now, GulfMan’s spelling and grammar far exceeds that of a 14 year old girl... for the most part.

Every bite of data on TicTok runs through a central computer in China. FACT: “ TikTok has been accused of secretly gathering “vast quantities” of user data and sending it to servers in China.

A class action lawsuit in the US claims the popular video-sharing app comes pre-installed with “Chinese surveillance software” that violates privacy, data and consumer protection laws.

“TikTok clandestinely has vacuumed up and transferred to servers in China vast quantities of private and personally-identifiable user data that can be employed to identify, profile, and track the location and activities of users in the United States now and in the future,” the lawsuit states...”

I agree. I have a 13 year old daughter who loves it.
I haven’t seen a law violated by TikTok. I haven’t see an app store rule that has been violated.
Yes, ban it from the military.

But someone tell me the worst thing China can do with a bunch of dance videos.
Facial recognition? Almost certainly already done by every intelligence agency.
Blackmail? How? To what end?

Banning tiktok will enforce idea of orange man bad.. hard enough to combat.

p.s. If you don’t have kids who use it, or “you don’t let your kids use tiktok”, your opinion isn’t the one that will matter to the 60-80 MILLION US users. (But feel free to share!)

I was going to defend you as being naive.

Naive, is one thing, though.

Being naive, aggressive and willfully ignorant is another thing. Good luck with this, you are going to need it.

I will grant that it is popular with teenagers and it can’t be shadow-banned by any US liberals. These are good aspects.

The primary information being kept by the Chinese is bad, but the Chinese combing all of YouTube would do the same. Once put on a public platform, it can be mined.

I don’t want Microsoft or other liberal organizations to own it.

I will say that a similar thing was said about Reddit with Trump’s supporters being kicked off. They went to their own site and are about as happy.

I’m confused...is GulfMan more concerned about Trump’s election, or his own erection?

...it’s the only social media platform in the US where there is truly “Free Speech’.

That is BS.

I’m not sure if they are letting his stuff thru b/c they’re afraid of DJT or not, but Trump ads and content are going unfettered, on Tik Tok. Unlike Twitter, which seems to be searching for reasons to ban him.

No one here hates the CCP and their BS more than me. But DJT should use them like they have used America.

Not only will he lose the connection to young people, but even his fans might be so angry to turn on him. This is a big deal with younger voters.

I should know. I’m going to hit 60 this month and most of my coworkers are between 20 & 30 yrs. old. And I get along with all of them.

My 20 year old (mostly conservative) kid loves TikTok and says there is a huge conservative pro Trump presence on it. She hates Twitter now and will be not happy if TikTok is banned. Wish she wasn’t so hooked on social media, but it seems that is how kids interact now. I actually think it is one of the things ruining our young minds. But she is an adult now, and no matter what I say, she wants her social media. Not sure if it will be a mistake to ban it, but it is a way to get a conservative message out to the young and impressionable. Hoping a US company will either buy it or another non China social media platform will take it’s place.
