WASHINGTON - Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) sent a letter to the CEOs of Alphabet, Facebook, Squarespace, and Twitter Thursday asking each company to identify and justify their content moderation process.
I am specifically concerned about corporations using their power unilaterally to silence opinions they dislike and thus warp the public debates their platforms present to the American people, the letter reads.
Sen Lee goes on to ask the Big Tech CEOs 11 questions including:
What content-moderation standards do you employ when you remove content from your platform, where the content does not violate state or federal laws?
How do you ensure that a content-moderation decision is not influenced by the personal beliefs or political views of the moderator?
If CDC guidance is the basis for removing content regarding COVID-19, is that standard apply consistently? For example, since the CDC says that it is safe for schools to open, do you remove content from your platform that opposes reopening schools?

A questionnaire from Senator Lee? Brilliant. No doubt this will stop the fascists at Big Tech in their election stealing tracks.
Better than nothing. At least he’s on the case!
Why didn’t Mike Lee ask the same question to Google?
Google is “Alphabet Inc.” I believe
MumbaiMike is on solidly on Big Techs side. They both think that changing America into India is a good thing, and Americans should be subservient to the new Indian ruling class
He did. Alphabet owns Google.
Yes the worst censor is twitter... and Dorsey was conspicuous by his absence.
Just looking through the letter.
Question 10 is good.
“Do you co-ordinate with other platforms?’
Yes they do. I notice when they take someone down they ALL do it one after another... (InfoWars/Alex Jones is a good example).
So I would like to know the answer to question 10 and how they co-ordinate because that could be a criminal conspiracy.
I wish more could be done. It’s frustrating. But we should encourage Lee to keep at it and see what happens.
From Lees’ statement:
If CDC guidance is the basis for removing content regarding COVID-19, is that standard apply consistently? For example, since the CDC says that it is safe for schools to open, do you remove content from your platform that opposes reopening schools?
BOOOOOOM !!!!
He went there !!!
Some good Q’s... I would like to know the answer too.
BOOOOOOM !!!!
He went there !!!
Too, little, Too late. A in a few weeks/month Lee will escalate to a stern letter. Note how the Dems use the House. Not how the GOP doesn’t use the Senate. That tells you all you need to know.
Mumbai Mike isn’t going to bite the hand that feeds him.
Want to harm these companies? Cut of their supply of cheap labor. Mumbai Mike won’t touch them.
Gaetz, while a self promoter, has touched the third rail when he says “Big Tech owns Congress.” Let’s see if others will focus their fire where it belongs: on our bought and paid for corrupt institutions. That includes Senator Lee (R-Silicon Valley.)
Useless posturing from a paid whore of Big Tech.
Yup.
Lee has been going to bat for the tech giants for years. Tucker called him out on that and invited him to come defend his position. Lee declined and issued one of them bland statemens instead.
Today’s questionnaire could very well be for show. We will see.
