John Saxon, the rugged actor who kicked around with Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon and appeared in three Nightmare on Elm Street movies for director Wes Craven, died Saturday. He was 83.

Saxon died of pneumonia in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, his wife, Gloria, told The Hollywood Reporter.

An Italian-American from Brooklyn, Saxon played characters of various ethnicities during his long career.

His portrayal of a brutal Mexican bandit opposite Marlon Brando in The Appaloosa (1966) earned him a Golden Globe, and he had a recurring role on ABC's Dynasty as Rashid Ahmed, a powerful Middle East tycoon who romanced Alexis Colby (Joan Collins). And on another 1980s primetime soap, CBS' Falcon Crest, he played the father of Lorenzo Lamas' character.

Years earlier, Saxon starred from 1969-72 as the surgeon Theodore Stuart on "The New Doctors" rotating segment of the NBC drama series The Bold Ones.

Discovered by the same agent who launched the careers of Rock Hudson and Tab Hunter, Saxon first gained notice for his performance as a disturbed high school football star who taunts Esther Williams in The Unguarded Moment (1956). In the film's credits, he's billed as "the exciting new personality John Saxon."

I remember him! He was everywhere on TV in the 60s and 70s! I can see him in an action packed fist fight with the star as I hear the Mannix theme song in my head! RIP John Saxon.

Hmmm...

Yeah, I noticed that. And started career as “male model”, too

Gene Roddenberry created a series for him to star in, “Planet Earth”, but other than the pilot, it wasn’t picked up.

Bruce, John, and Jim are hanging out together on Hahn’s Island where they are beating up on the iron-fisted dork.

Who could forget this little Gene Roddenberry gem from the mid 70's that recycled half of what Star Trek: TOS was, and what the Movies and Next Generation would become, right down to the lumpy-headed, proto-Klingons? (Hint: some of the character names and part of the plot that never took root ended up as part of the Roddenberry series, 'Andromeda'........)

I remember him. I always wondered why he wasn’t playing the leading role. It could be he got enough steady work as a co-star he was satisfied with that. Better than waiting tables.

Henry Willson.

Yep, gay. Was the agent for a while of Natalie Wood, Robert Wagner, Rory Calhoun.

Sold out Calhoun’s Federal juvie record to protect Hudson’s gayness.

Was big on the post-WWII names consisting of a single syllable first name followed by a two syllable last name.

Wagner dug in his heels on that.

“Queen of Blood” was a stylized space/vampire flick.

Plus I remember seeing him in a bunch of classic tv shows.

Yes...Saxon was part of these 3 or 4 shows in the 70s revolving around PAX. The whole thing never went anywhere from what I remember.

I kind of liked the idea.

Better than the hokey Ark II.
