David Byrne overwhelms the image of Talking Heads. With his herky-jerky mannerisms, loopy persona and arch lyrics not to mention his command of the songwriting credits through much of their catalogue he eclipsed the efforts of every other member of the band. Yet according to a new memoir by Talking Heads co-founder and drummer, Chris Frantz, titled Remain in Love, Byrnes dominant image wasnt merely a by-product of a legitimately outsized talent, but a clear power grab, driven by ego, greed and a skewed mindset.
Its like he cant help himself, Frantz said in a phone interview. His brain is wired in such a way that he doesnt know where he ends and other people begin. He cant imagine that anyone else would be important.

Guess there won’t be a reunion tour.
I think I’ve read that the other three are up for it but Bryne doesn’t want to do it.
“That song features lyrics about the singer doing cocaine with her boyfriend. Ugh.”
Isn’t the line “we went insane/when we took cocaine”
I like a number of their songs.
That said, I don’t like many more of their songs.
All the weekendThe context doesnt seem like cocaine is presented particularly negatively there.
Boyfriend was missing
I surely miss him
The way hed hold me in his warm arms
We went insane when we took cocaine
Thanks! I’ll to look into the Sub Pop compilation.
Enjoy
People did drugs a lot back then. I guess many people still do.
For those that haven’t heard it, The Talking Heads ‘Life During Wartime’ live version is a “must-hear”.
Debbie Harry looked and sounded great in the video for 'On The Telephone'.
She also a funny role in a 'Mad TV' skit involving "Stuart". The skit isn't as funny as the one with Stuart in the Pool but it's good.
“Once in a Lifetime” too (from Stop Making Sense).
Debbie Harry was born in 1945. When she hit fame in the 70s she was over 30.
Here she is at 74

Denis Tek is an odd cat. He went from Ann Arbor Michigan down to Australia and took a guitar he got from the MC5 and Lenny Kaye’s Nuggets album with him.
That is a great version. I love the crescendo when the B3 organ comes grinding in and the backup singers go from leaning backwards to standing upright — hard to describe but it’s a great visual.
Kick out the jams mother****ers!
