Hey there folks. A buddy of mine asked me to come up to shoot next weekend and I'm coming up empty on ammo availability. Anybody know of a decent online retailer I could try? I struck out on all the big chains like Cabelas and Gander outdoors.
It feels like it too.
freedom munitions is in Idaho iirc. They are under new ownership. I haven’t shot any of the stuff under their new owners, but the previous stuff I never had a problem with. I think they are pretty low on stock at the moment.
They make their own stuff and sell some name brands.
:-(
Thanks, Ill keep that in mind.
If you wait until you NEED ammo to buy it, then it’s probably too late. We’ve learned this since the beginning of O’bama.
People already told you 5.56 isn’t safe for a .223, but I recall reading something about Ruger Mini-14’s being engineered to take 5.56, but being labeled 223. I just googled it, and only the Mini-14 target is not cleared for 5.56. Everything else is good irrespective of the markings.

“The Russian stuff can be had for 24 cents/round.”
the russian stuff is usually steel-cased, which is REALLY rough on firearms ... i wouldn’t shoot it in any decent firearm ...
If I recall correctly, the NRA did some torture tests and concluded in their magazine that it you would have to have a huge number of rounds (like ~20,000) go through the weapon before you would see a significant deterioration caused by steel vs. brass.
I've always shot brass. I can't ever remember a shortage quite as bad as this one, although I was well stocked during the last one and may just not have been sensitive to it.
What I certainly do notice is a very serious unavailability of weapons of all kinds right now. My wife wants to spend her Trumpbux on an AR, and I have not been able to find a Wylde 223/556 anywhere online for almost three months. Also shotguns; no Mossbergs, none of the better Remingtons, many 45s and nines are way overpriced.

They usually have what I want in stock. And sometimes shipping is free.

Good luck Kiddo,

Are slow.
Have you tried Palmetto State Armory for the AR-15? They sell a lot of kits which should be pretty easy to assemble. That might be the way to go, seems like that would be more available. It’s a good company I’ve bought from them before.
I was in the Kentucky Gun Company the other day to use the range and they looked pretty well-stocked for weapons. They do have a good online presence. It is a good family owned company.

Thank you.
And we have great gun shops on the outskirts of L.A. But few in city limits.

I just purchased some at sgammo.com and it was cheap compared to other places. And it was only $12.00 shipping for a box of 200 rounds.

Very fast shipper, too, BTW, if they have what you want.
Not all guns can shoot the Russian steel cased ammo reliably. I’ve had some that do, and some that get knocked out of service after around 40 rounds requiring a steel rod to knock them out of the chamber. Depends on your firearm. If you can run a few hundred rounds with no problem, don’t worry about it. I’ve also reloaded steel cased with no problems - just a few times though as they don’t stretch like brass. But in cases of emergencies... The steel used is MUCH softer than any metal in your chamber or bolt.
