Hey there folks. A buddy of mine asked me to come up to shoot next weekend and I'm coming up empty on ammo availability. Anybody know of a decent online retailer I could try? I struck out on all the big chains like Cabelas and Gander outdoors.

Question: Is 5.56 the same(interchangeable) as .223 ammo. The Russian stuff can be had for 24 cents/round.

I used to buy online from these guys before California outlawed that. A brief look at their website indicates they seem to have ammo in stock, but shipping times are extended. I have never been disappointed with their ammo, it is good for the range.

Absolutely not! 5.56 has higher pressure and is unsafe in rifles chambered for .223 even though it looks like it fits. You can, however, shoot .223 out of a rifle chambered for 5.56. If you are buying a new gun get 5.56.

No. You can shoot .223 in a 5.56 chamber but not the other way.

Im running a weeklong boys adventure camp in a few weeks. It didnt click with me that ammo would be an issue until a couple weeks ago.
Our normal supplier was out.
Fortunately I was able to get 10,000 rounds of .22 from another summer camp.

Here in CA, we can’t order ammo online or out of state unless it’s sent to a CA licensed ammo dealer. Then we can pick up the ammo after we pass a background check.
