What is the twist rate? I noticed they had the Axis in 7mm Remington Magnum. That is a great cartridge but I have arthritis in both shoulders and the recoil is probably too much now.

Yep!

Not worth bookmarking, think out of the sheeple box. M1 Garand the go to rifle. It can be loaded up with AP, API, incendiary, it takes away ALL cover, cars, trees, walls, concrete , vests, ...GIs won the ETO and PTO with .30 cal M2 AP rounds....ask any combat vet what happens when their cover is removed....WW2 AP penetrates brick walls, cars, 24” trees, sandbags, rail road ties....API stops armored vehicles in its tracks, incendiary burns at 6300 degrees and ignites gas, diesel, oil, fuel, plastic,.....yes, it is still legally available but costly.

"I was leaning toward the .223 but read an article which said it has a one in 12 twist rate."

Not claiming to be an expert on this but I think only my oldest AR15 has a 1 in 12 twist rate. I've read that this means that the 55 grain bullets are stabilized but perhaps not the 62 grain that is quite common.

That rifle was built out of surplus M16 parts and in appearance differs little from the rifle I trained with in 1968.

As far as I know just about everything else that is available in .223 has, I think, a twist rate of 1 in 9. You might want to check this out. I picked the .223 because it is such a common round.

Oops. I may have misunderstood your post. Evidently Remington has sold .223 rifles with 1 in 12 rifling. Wise of you to have recognized that. I googled the topic and found some people who were unsatisfied with their Remington 700s for that reason.

I had a Colt H-bar which came with a .22LR adapter. It had a 1 in 7 twist which is way faster than standard .22LR barrels.

It was a beautiful rifle and was also extremely accurate with all .223 ammo. The real surprise was it handled .22LR ammo perfectly. That fast twist did not seem to harm accuracy at all.

You might be able to shoot up to a 63 grain bullet with the 1:12 twist, but I’m thinking the barrel will probably need to be at least 24 inches.

Okay, so I watched the video- reminded me of, well me, in the days of yore, minus a few newer tech goodies.

Now, the reality- These carbines they are sporting are $6-10k boutiques that the average “operator” gets to tote from uncle sugar or the Police department.

Here’s what a set up like these cost ( after the SBR and Suppressor stickers of $400):

Rifle-$800 give or take for a decent one, $1500+ for a pixie dusted unicorn horned version.

Optics- the 34 mm Leupy Mk 8 1-8x $2800+
the Aimpoint T2-$600

Laser light/designator, IR- $1000-3000, for a the ones that work

Suppressor-$300-1200

All the extra gadgets and mounts etc- $500-700

So, my estimate is for one of these SBR stamped/suppressed goodie laden tools-

The low end: $3600
Hi End: $8900

Oh, BTW, don’t forget a decent set of goggles, say Gen 2+ $1800 min, Armor, $800, etc.

So, for the price of a small used car, you get one 556 mid range tool that depends on a long tail of logistics.

I think I will write up a sort of comprehensive list and plan for the average Joe and Jill.

The stuff these guys are talking about is not realistic for 90% of us.

My Nikon is very clear, and the BDC is dead on, especially after I printed out the results from Nikon’s app for my particular load and barrel combo. Too bad they are getting out of the rifle optics game.

I intentionally have (at least) 1 AR that is configured for 1-in-7, to stabilize heavy bullets.

BUMP!

Thanks for posting. Great video. Definitely has my head spinning. A lot of information there that I'm going to have to go through very carefully one little bit at a time.

I bought an AR-15 quite a while back but haven't done a thing with it, not even taken it to the range. In my 70s now, so what's the point? But this video is giving me the itch again, lol! Something to bequeath to whomever I think will be worthy of it? Not my drug-addled nephew, that's for sure! Gonna have to identify somebody soon, tho. Why did I ever talk the poor boy out of joining the Army way back when? The military turned me around, might have done the same for him, who knows?

Anyhoo, here's another nice little pic apropos this topic, again from Matt:
