It was expected that several players from the Yankees and Nationals would take a knee during or prior to the national anthem on Opening Day. Though, it wasnt widely expected that every player and coach from both teams would do it.
But, thats exactly what happened.
The players knelt in protest in front of an empty stadium. MLB has closed their stadiums to fans during their abbreviated season due to the coronavirus.
After the death of George Floyd and the ensuing civil unrest that has swept through the country since late May, MLB has become more vocal on social justice issue. The leagues social media accounts have tweeted dozens of Black Lives Matter messages. In addition, MLB has stenciled Black Lives Matter on the pitchers mounds in all ballparks during their opening weekend.

these are not my father’s generation Yankees....Thurman Munson would have had a cow....
They think they found a loophole kneeling just before, not during the National Anthem. Trump should consider rescinding. But he will probably just take the high road and just do it.
Those fake cut outs in the stands might be the only “people” watching MLB this season — and beyond. MLB doesn’t seem to want real fans anymore.
I never liked baseball and never watch it. Did go to a Mariners game as the guest of my son when Ichiro was playing; rather fun to watch in person.
But fuggedaboudit.
WATCH:
Not a chance in hell, haven’t watched a football game in a couple years and won’t be watching MLB or NBA to go along with the NFL. Easy to fill those hours with “participation” in other activities.
I’ve posted on other threads, I don’t know anyone under 50 that still watches professional baseball. Young people find it much too slow, and people raised being entertained watching screens can’t stand commercials.
It seems many Americans are pretty stupid.

A “testament” to the American “education system”.
My last game was watching the Indians play last year at ‘Progressive” field.
They won the game, fitting end to my baseball viewing. Besides, very soon they will be something NOT called the Indians.
George Steinbrenner never would have allowed this. He believed in the respect for the anthem, the flag and the country.
Seeing their support for BLM, a racist, anti American, violent Marxist group is disgusting.
This is a disgrace.
I'm done with the Yankees. I'm done with baseball.
Trump to throw out first pitch at Yankees Opener. I dont think he cares about kneeling so long as it isnt done as a shot at our National Anthem.
think of all the extra time people will now have to enjoy doing things with their kids, friends, family, clubs, geoups, new hobbies, getting back into old hobbies
plus they dont have to fork out money for tickets or pay monthly fees for sports packages, that can go towards other wants and needs
what will be really cool is when they all kneel on their george floyd dolls’ necks
They are pandering, like most entertainment, to the last groups who even plant their arses in front of screens for hours consuming whatever bread and circuses are served up.
Americas national waste of time.

Agree. Maybe some former fans will now discover other more enjoyable and rewarding things to do with their time instead of wasting it watching a bunch of greedy ingrates and endless commercials for hours on end.
Since there are no fans in the stadium, the cowards on both teams found courage. With a full stadium, I’m skeptical we will see this happen.
F the high road! I mean, It’s benefitted us so much! We are 1st Class Chumps!
Bye Bye Baseball
Kneeling has always been a symbol of submission. Just let it be said. Just let it be known.
Sports are dead to me!
Bunch of cucks!!
Done with Baseball, NBA, and NFL!!
Never watched NASCAR so no loss there for me.
