Forgot to mention Steve Hackett. Original Genesis guitarist. His solo stuff since then is the true Genesis.

His "Genesis Revisited" stuff is awesome.

Ronnie James Dio grew up listening to Mario Lanza his inspiration.

All of the Genesis folks rocked, as much as I admire Phil Collins who I think was the hardest worker in rock, I liked the band better when Peter Gabriel had the helm

There was a local band in the late ‘60’s that used to play at a weekly church dance - The Camel-Haired Crayon. They were great!

There was a band consisting of classmates that used to play at our local ski resort at about the same time - Faceless People. All were superb musicians; band had a huge following.

I often wonder whatever happened to ‘em.

Because of Phil Collins' coming to the front of the band, most people forget just how incredibly great Phil was behind the drums.

Another amazingly great jazz-fusion band was Phil's side project, "Brand-X."

While we're on drummers, we can talk about Genesis' first "replacement" drummer, Bill Bruford: Between his King Crimson work (so many people don't know of them,) then his later work on his own and with "Earthworks," he did tour with Genesis for a year. Later, Phil got Chester Thompson to tour with them, and he's been a part of the Genesis touring band until the end. Chester also played a major part in Frank Zappa's band, back during the George Duke days, another band that hasn't been mentioned here!

Though they’re a fantastic group, and 2 of the 5 members are still touring with the band, Kansas doesn’t get anywhere near enough love!

I’m also a HUGE lover of 70s rock, and it seems I was born just a year or two later to have heard them hit their zenith, but the band “Fanny” was truly awesome, that I only just discovered on YouTube. I do seem to recall seeing them on the “Sonny and Cher Show” back in the 70s, but they’re an amazing, all-female band. David Bowie and Lowell George were huge fans of them!

I think one of the finest musicians no one heard was Roye Albrighton of Nektar

Phil was everywhere, on everyone’s LP but when he became the front man the music suffered, great drummer.

No one really knew phil as a singer until Gabriel left and they were like “hey phil knows the words”

The band never really was the same

The Sonics.

An early 60s Pac NW band that is often cited as the inspiration for the later CBGB bands like the Ramones etc
