If we’re talking “unknown bands” has anyone here ever listened to Kings X? I used to be into them a lot back in the late 80’s and 90’s

Yea man. Saw them in 1976 in Savannah,Georgia. Along with Wet Willy and Marshall Tucker Band. I went to the same venue a few months later to see Skynrd (sp). Tickets were sold out and the kids went nuts and tried to bust down the doors. The cops showed up with clubs and dogs and I made a hasty retreat out of there!

Oh God, Pepe and the Good Rats were a great band that never charted.

I did hear fireball express as a kid on local radio bin ohio before they ruined radio

Loved the ‘Bang’ album. Some good ol’ rock ‘n roll on that! Actually saw then at the old Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City after ‘Miami’ was released.

Must be nice.

Pretty sure there were no rock bands after the late 80's :)

I agree. Here’s a video of one of my faves from The Worn Flints. Mentioned them a few posts back but thought if I posted a link, it might save someone a few steps. https://youtu.be/61GI16Q9HRs

When I was a kid I dressed like Rory,

That's dedication. As a teen in the late 70' early 80's I had the long hair, wore nothing but flannel shirts and bluejeans, and then was turned on to Rory by a buddy. I guess I was a latent Rory fan.

Benjamin Orr of the Cars is well-known due to the band’s popularity but I think he is among the best voices of the era and is underappreciated by some. He sang lead on about 40% of the band’s songs.

I shouldn't have read this thread - now I can't get any work done...

Camper van Beethoven -> Cracker - Eurotrash Girl.

Treat Her Right -> Morphine - I Think She Likes Me.

Replacements - Hardly Wait.

All are mandatory listening for me when driving in Nebraska or somewhere.

Someone one this thread mentioned Micheal Stanley, a man who changed the world with the Midwest sound, Springsteen ripped him off, John Cougar Mellonball ripped him off, springsteen even shat on his own band, I submit that Nils Lofgren is superior to Springsteen in every way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coNqbqnH3AM

Check out the Spanish guitar style solo towards the end of Valerie:

Thanks for posting the video. I saw the Monkees do "Valerie" on TV in 1968--I believe it was the same video, but it was in black-and-white because we didn't have a color TV.

The Wrecking Crew did this tune under a pseudonym. It reached #70 on the Billboard Hot 100 but it should have been a much bigger hit.
