They were very good but they built on what Gilbert and Sullivan started. G&S were the fathers of family friendly comedic entertainment for the middle class.

I was going to say Neil and Peart. (Lyrics)
Although Geddy I don’t think ever told Peart what to write, he would tell him what didn’t work, or what
Geddy couldn’t sing with meaning it. And then Peart would go back and rework the lyrics. Many times sometimes. So while Geddy didn’t write any lyrics, he sure did influence them.
I recall one interview where Geddy was asked about how Peart took that.
Geddy replied something like “Very well. I mean, sometimes none of his original words were there, but the idea was still there. I think he was just glad to have written them in the first place.”
Geddy wrote all of the lyrics for the first album. Rumored to have done it the night before the recording session when they found out John Rutsey (previous drummer) said he would come up with the lyrics but didn’t.
