The NRA is in complete chaos. They can’t even get out of their own way. Maybe GOA or TSAF could do it.

Not a bad idea. Could make use of things like Youtube for non-range lessons.

I am an nra certified pistol instructor. The NRA offers a basic pistol class. However the instructor sets their own price except for the cost of the books. I charge $75 for the 7-8 hour class. I also have to rent range time which I pay out of the $75. I also do private lessons for those who can’t come to a class. So the NRA does offer a basic pistol class but the price is set by the instructor.

Too many Wahoos out there.

Lots of the “Instructors” Ive come across are petty tyrants with little d:ck syndrome instead of knowledgable teachers.

The concept is right, but the execution would be horrendous. Find a good gun shop and propose the idea. A good local shop could really make waves with some customer appreciation and marketing.

In New Hampshire our local fish and game clubs offer regular classes for beginners. We even have classes for women who would like to learn firearms safety and basic shooting skills while meeting like minded women from the area.

The classes even provide guidance on what kind of firearm to buy, and allow the participants the opportunity to try out various pistols.

As an example, the Pelham Fish and Game Club offers a variety of courses including the NRA Women on Target class, the NH Hunter Safety Class, and other classes suitable for beginners.

Of course we are lucky here in New Hampshire because we also have the Sig Sauer Academy. They offer a full range of classes, including classes oriented towards more advanced topics like Precision Scoped Rifle or Advanced Rifle Operator.

They also offer classes for beginners, and needless to say have a great pro shop!

Yes,gun safety training is *never* a bad idea. But it must be noted that many Rat Party dominated states (including mine) demand silly, expensive “safety” courses as one of a dozen or more hurdles to infringe upon our Constitutional rights.

The NRA is just a giant slush fund for a few top executives. It’s time we move on to organizations that do more to fight for our Second Amendment rights.

Where I live, there is plenty of room to go shoot, and plenty of seasoned gun owners. As such, most new gun owners don’t feel the need to pay someone to teach them basic gun skills. Be that as it may, my wife and I are NRA certified, and she taught concealed carry for many years. We have 160 acres here, so she just did it on our place. I have my own 600 yard rifle range here, and I’ve been toying with the idea of giving courses to all those gazillion new AR15 owners on how to REALLY operate and shoot that rifle.

The NRA is dead.

Until the leadership changes it will rot and decay until it is no more.

Are talking gun safety in general or approved courses that some States demand for carry permits?

Grew up in NRA family and dad got together with a Shop teacher to bring training into the school - it was readily and cheaply available but someone had to take the initiative.

What people seem to be missing here is that I am calling for a standardized gun safety course that is very affordable (or even free) because it is subsidized by the gun & sporting goods industries and donations. That would be coupled with a big advertising push to get the word out on gun safety.

Others have said here it will not help the NRA's leadership debacle. I disagree. NRA leaders at the moment lack a common program they could all get behind. This could help bring them together and resolve their differences. They are squabbling like children at the moment, but they are all American patriots who might answer such a call to do a public service for their country. It is worth a try.
