That is why the politicians took up the hue and cry against the “evil Saturday Night Special” back in the 1960s. Ban them and the “Evil” 5 shot bolt action army surplus rifle was the mantra back in the 1960s.
Any handgun under $50 in 1970 was considered a “Saturday Night Special”. The Denver Post, in 1970, illustrated an article on SNS firearms with a Ruger Mark II, which cost was $45 at that time.
Note: The call to ban army surplus rifles was actually an attempt by New England congressmen to protect Winchester, Remington and Savage from cheap competition, so they designated those rifles “Evil”. The JFK murder helped a lot.
