Those of you who know me know I am an avid motorcyclist. It is my hobby. my recreation, my transportation, my skill, and my therapy. One of my favorite things to do is ride around SE Massachusetts along non-highway roads and just take in the sights.
One of my favorite areas to ride is Duxbury MA. It is an historic seaside community just north of Plymouth, and has many historic buildings related to the Pilgrims. It is also extremely wealthy, and, unfortunately, a hotbed of liberalism.
The "Virtue Signalling" signs began popping up a few years ago. On the vast sloping lawns of the seaside mansions were the colorful signs in 5 languages:
"HATE HAS NO HOME HERE"
"All Are Welcome"
"Don't HATE, Teach Kind"
All the signs were professionally screen printed on waterproof plastic, with metal stakes planted firmly in the ground. They seemed especially hypocritical when placed within close proximity to these signs:
"NO TRESPASSING"
"NO TURNS"
"PRIVATE PROPERTY"
"VIDEO SURVEILLANCE"
"NO SOLICITING"
Now, being a staunch conservative, I have no problem with wealth or private property, so don't get me wrong. It is just that the two different types of signs suggest that "ALL" are not really welcome after all.
After the killing of a Police Officer a few years ago, there were lots of blue signs, lights, and ribbons showing support for the Fallen Officer. Some of the blue, faded ribbons still cling to the lampposts, but, during the quarantine a brand new type of sign has gone up, replacing the "All Are Welcome" signs. These were often wooden pallets, painted white, with a big red heart on them. Some had messages like this:
"WE LOVE FIRST RESPONDERS"
"THANK YOU POLICE, FIRE, EMTS!"
"WE MISS OUR TEACHERS!"
"THANK YOU ESSENTIAL WORKERS"
Those were OK I guess, but now those have been replaced by professionally produced, screen printed, uniform and ubiquitous signs that say:
BLACK
LIVES
MATTER
(Of course, the No Trespassing related signs have remained in place throughout this entire time.)
Just on a whim, I searched the racial demographics of this extremely beautiful, historic, wealthy, and crime-free seaside community. Here it is:
Duxbury Demographics
According to the most recent ACS, the racial composition of Duxbury was:
White: 97.54%
Other race: 1.44%
Asian: 1.02%
Black or African American: 0.00%
Native American: 0.00%
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander: 0.00%
Two or more races: 0.00%
(((((SIGH)))))
Self loathing white guilt liberals.
You couldnt make it up except that its actually true. It would be interesting to see the demographics of the places that so many of the protestors come from.
I think it started with “This Car Brakes For Animals” and “Baby On Board” back in the early- to mid-70s.
That’s just my personal observation. Virtue signaling may have started before that. I suppose you could say that wearing a Crucifix pin or necklace is virtue signalling too.
Thanks for the memories.
True.
But apparently not self-loathing enough to skimp on security measures! LOL!
(PS, by driving through, I actually add a tiny percentage point to the “Native American” demographic. Also, the total absence of Indians is rather ironic, considering the role they played in the First Thanksgiving! LOL!)
The ‘Left’ has perfected the art of ‘Cognitive Dissonance’.....................
[I am an avid motorcyclist as well.]
Probably from communities just like that! :-(
Tell a resident that Captain Dux was a slave owner.
Once, when I rode to Orland, I rode off the beaten path through some orange groves, right while the flowers were in bloom. It was heavenly!
Then, you know what a gorgeous town it is. Powder Point Road is awesome.
Except for those signs.
Oh My....that’s gonna leave a marque.
I meant “Orlando” not “Orland”
You have a home in glory that has them beat all out.
Chin up, sister.
Is there a Motorcycle Ping List?
Well, AMEN TO THAT!
(((HUGS)))
