Crime spike? What crime spike?

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shrugged off New York City’s frightening rise in crime, suggesting that tough times are forcing parents into committing petty theft to feed their kids.

“They feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry,” Ocasio-Cortez (D-Queens) said last week on a virtual town hall for constituents that was broadcast on her official Facebook page.

The city recorded 43 shootings in the last week, up more than 300% from the same time period in 2019. Ten people were shot over a bloody July 4 weekend

The progressive lawmaker counterintuitively suggested that cutting more funds from the NYPD would help stem the crime wave, apparently because that money could be channeled into social programs.

“The New York City police department has not been defunded,” she said, referring to proposed 15% cuts in the NYPD’s $6 billion budget. “These cuts aren’t really real. And again, they haven’t even happened yet.”

Pelosi honed her not-too-shabby political skills with years and years of grooming and practice, we may not like her at all, but she’s one you have to grudgingly give her credit.

Partial one term congresswoman AOC, on the other hand, has ambition and not much sense. Good luck trying to maneuver speakership position at such young naive stage. She may have some backing, but I just don’t see AOC having the same iron grip as Pelosi.

AOC's 14th Congressional District is about half Hispanic or Latino heritage, making it one of the more Latino districts in New York. Because she grew up speaking Spanish, she has used it for her benefit in her politics. Her June 23rd Democrat Primary results showed her with a substantial lead of 72.6% lead over Michelle Caruso-Cabrera's 19.5%. AOC was able to launch a late campaign ad calling Caruso-Cabrera a former longtime member of the Republican Party. Caruso-Cabrera is the author of the 2010 book, "You Know I'm Right: More Prosperity, Less Government." If she had a Spanish edition of that book, the 14th District would have had a better understanding of her political position. AOC's primary results reflects the lack of discernment in the Hispanic community.
