German is coming.
English may be the European Unions lingua franca, but listen carefully in the corridors of power and youll find the language of Goethe and Schiller is on the rise.
German is gaining ground among the EUs three official working languages as Berlin prepares to take on the blocs presidency next month. Thats not least because native speakers occupy top positions, including Ursula von der Leyen at the Spitze of the European Commission.
Those in the Brussels bubble are taking note.
The Goethe Institute, Germanys state-funded cultural outpost, told POLITICO it saw a five-fold increase in demand for its free language tuition service for diplomats and journalists in Brussels between 2012 and 2019.
Thats part of Europanetzwerk Deutsch, a state-funded, soft power initiative to lift those with some knowledge of German into working proficiency.
Worldwide, some 15.4 million people are now learning the language, according to a five-year review published this month by the German government. Compared with the last survey in 2015, theres a 62 percent rise in Denmark, 16 percent in France and 30 percent in the Netherlands, while 2 million Poles are now practicing their der, die and das.
Any lingering historical sensitivity around promoting German as an international language has been replaced by the gravitational pull of Europes largest economy, helped by the countrys modern image as a bulwark of liberal values.

“Worldwide, some 15.4 million people are now learning the language”
That’s about 1% of the people who are learning/speaking English as a second language around the world (1.5B). They have a bit of a ways to go before the Rike is re-established.

Macron’s France isn’t allowed to.
Macron himself thinks he’s the next Napoleon anyhow.

I have always heard that France considers her language as vastly superior and more beautiful than all others.
Maybe when young women speak it. Our French chemistry TA had the attention of every guy in that lab when she said "putton your go-gels'.

Well with the UK as the only native English speaking country out of there that’s hardly surprising.

Technically speaking it makes perfect sense as no English speaking other than Ireland is part of EU now.

You know what it implies, though? That Germany is the leader of the EU and the entity is its empire; to blazes with all of the rest of the continent.

Ireland still speaks English. Very few Irish Gaelic speakers left; it’s as if the EU has endeavored to stifle that language.

Ireland has what, 5, 6 million people, Germany has 80 million plus?

That could I not with deal. Up their grammar is screwed. My wife's Pennsylvania-German mother was once heard to say, "Throw grandfather down the stairs his shoes." She never heard the last of it - especially from grandfather.

Who are the leader of empire then? What English as a language of EU implies?
To: aquila48
A lot of Europhiles use similar logic to justify the stifling of Irish Gaelic.

I might not be surprised if Germany is the head of Daniel's 4th beast. Not that my ancestors (to a certain degree) have any history of attempting world domination or anything like that.
=====
Daniel 7:23 King James Version
23 Thus he said, The
fourth beast shall be the
fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

And he’s “Emmanuel” - at least by name. Which leads some to think he’ll be “the guy”. Too early to say I think.
