It was not very nice 50 years ago (think Pruitt Igoe) but it seemed to have gotten better but given the last ten years, I’m sure it’s in the crapper again today.
At the time I worked down town, it had gone through a lot of revitalization and rebuilding. Famous Barr and Dillards were the anchors for the new St. Louis Center. Dillard had purchased the old Stix building to redo.
A partnership had just built the “Darth Vader” building on 8th and Market. First National moved its headquarters to that building and changed their name to Centerre Bank.
Schnucks still had a convenience size grocery a block away. The stadium was half a block away. Union Station was redone and beautiful.
All gone downhill last time I was there.
