It was Bob’s Big Boy in SoCal. In the midwest it was Shoney’s—same Big Boy though.

Shoney’s founder was Alex Schoenbaum, who played football for Ohio State University. Mr. Schoenbaum and his lovely wife Betty were philanthropists and beloved patrons of the arts in Sarasota.

It depends where you lived. There were different chains that used the Big Boy system and mascot. In Michigan it was Elias Brothers. Frisch’s restaurants used to be Frisch’s Big Boy.
