11 year old killing himself is more than due to a lock down.
There’s something bigger there, either experienced by the kid or due to neurological factors.
That was my thought, too.
Most kids are very adaptable and inventive about amusing themselves.
Lots of 11 year olds lived very isolated during many periods in human history. Suburban and urban America is not the historical norm although I think its very nice.
So I have the feeling there is more to this story.
That said I believe this insane leadership and restriction with its accompanying hopelessness and the destruction of dreams, education, financial well being and relationships will of course result in more suicides and self destructive behavior.
I was thinking the same thing. Endless summer for kids in 1971 would never be the cause of a moments lost sleep. But I had friends, brothers, and played in the neighborhood. We made our own play dates.
And only one of us got killed.
I know many kids who at times have been extrememly stressed due to sudden stop of so many things they were used to doing and not being able to see people they routinely saw. Maybe this kid was infatuated with someone and suddenly could not see them? maybe he had no phone or denied access to that or internet?
I could see a kid that age killing themselves largely due to sudden stop of so much they were daily used to, which happened due to covid and how parents dealt with it with their child or what restrictions communities placed on people.
this wasn’t typical school break for kids, this was sudden restructure of their lives.
Some are adaptable and some not so much. I was 14 or 15 and a kid in my grade took his own life. kids today seem to value life and death even less - so much more mind numbing has happened - tv video games etc or so much self focus.
