What To Watch For in the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix.

Austria Formula 1 Pirelli Grosser Preis Der Steiermark 2020.

The first race of the 2020 season is not until Sunday, but Mercedes have already achieved a victory of sorts after the stewards in Austria rejected a protest lodged by rivals Red Bull against their innovative Dual Axis Steering System (DAS).

Following two Mercedes-topped practice sessions at the opening round in Spielberg, it was announced Red Bull were protesting the legality of the system, which Mercedes first debuted in pre-season testing back in February, and which will be banned from 2021 onwards.

Red Bull lodged a protest regarding an alleged breach of the Technical Regulations, specifically article 3.8 which refers to aerodynamic influence and article 10.2.3, which states “no adjustment may be made to any suspension system while the car is in motion”.

Lewis Hamilton's using the DAS system back in winter testing at Barcelona However, after a stewards hearing attended by members of both teams (in person or via video), as well as Nikolas Tombazis of the FIA Technical Department, it was determined that DAS is part of the Mercedes W11’s steering system, “albeit not a conventional one”.

As a result, the stewards decided that DAS could not be in breach of any suspension‐related regulations.

“As a general conclusion, it is very simple to conclude DAS would be illegal IF it were not part of the steering system,” read the stewards’ document. “So the main challenge and debate has to be on whether it can be considered to be part of the steering system. The stewards decide that DAS is a part of the steering system.

"Therefore the Stewards consider DAS to be a legitimate part of the steering system and hence to satisfy the relevant regulations regarding suspension or aerodynamic influence."

The full stewards verdict, with lengthy explanations of how they came to their verdict, can be read here.

The result means that Mercedes can continue to run the system, which is believed to allow the tyres to be heated more evenly on the straights – thus reducing wear and aiding grip – while still allowing maximum stability on corner entry.

Their rivals, meanwhile, may now look to adopt a version of the system themselves before the season is out – and Red Bull boss Christian Horner has already hinted his team may do just that...

Amen!

Just about fell out of my chair. Mask wearing by those attempting to be understood as announcers for one. And out doors good grief. And followed by knee taking from clueless formula one drivers although that may be a result of US ownership of the formula.

Then the ridiculous banner proclaiming “end Racism”. Racism exists only in the minds of those with an agenda foreign to anyone familiar with and upholding principles of liberty and freedom. It lives under the politics of division.

Total wussification. I now have to question myself why I would break with principle to even watch such a display. I’ll leave it at that. Sad Sad beginning to what used to be. Fangio, Ascari, and Nuvolari, I believe would and should be rolling in their graves with disgust.

Interesting double post. Don’t think I’ve had the experience where the posts had identical times. Which leaves me wondering what the H happened. Did I really hit post twice?

I toughed it out, and Lando Norris is a hero for booting the knee taking brit off the podium on the last lap by three tens, or was it three hundredths, no matter, he did it. The knee taking brit also booted Albon off the track by taking up way too much track while Albon was ahead of him.

Again I have to ask why people are wearing masks outdoors, while social distancing? Then there is the race of attrition we just watched. Can I live with the new F1 normal. I may have to switch to youth go-cart races. Maybe politics and PC haven’t invaded yet.

Congrats to McLaren and extra special congrats to Lando Norris for throwing down the fastest lap of the race on the last lap to secure P3.

I quit F-1 this morning. I won’t ever watch it again.
It’s leftist dog crap.

Hopefully, IndyCar and IMSA won’t kneel like NOOSE-CAR and CRAP-1.

Working in opposition to personal principles, I have a long term affair with F1, Grand Prix racing having started when as a teenager the family move to England. So, I lived the 1958 season watching on BBC tv. That’s over sixty years of loyalty to that sport.

One inspiration today were the few drivers that did not take a knee meaning hope for the future. Maybe I’m just trying to justify why I watched today. I think most of us know that living a lie is a poor excuse for living. PC cannot continue or it will be the death of the sport as the NFL is close to doing to itself. I’d like to thing F1 is smarter. Time will tell.

Hamilton was the only driver I saw with a BLM shirt. Rest had the generic “end racism” shirt. So, yes, there does seem some hope people are waking up to this marxist scam.
