In 2004, Pierce Brosnan received a shocking phone call.
The James Bond actor, who was gearing up to do a fifth movie in the 007 franchise, was told by producers the role was being recast.
Initially, the star felt he had been kicked to the curb. But now, he has no hard feelings against the decision.
Theres no regret, the 67-year-old told The Guardian on Wednesday. I do not let regret come into my world It just leads to more misery and more regrets.
Brosnan made his debut as the British Secret Service agent in 1995s GoldenEye. He went on to star in 1997s Tomorrow Never Dies, 1999s The World is Not Enough and 2002s Die Another Day.

But he played himself real well in Glengarry Glenn Ross.
I’ve learned to love the BW version of the Saint.
In an early episode, Simon whispers something about working for British Intelligence to a hotel desk lady.
At the end, she remarks that she was working for James Bond.
Couldn't do just black or just female, had to be both.
No thanks.
And nobody’s mentioned...Sir David Niven.
Eh, what?
What about a Black Tranny, and cover all the bases.
And nobodys mentioned...Sir David Niven.
Eh, what?
The original “Casino Royale” (1967)
Lesbo, too, probably.
Charles K. Feldman, the producer, had acquired the film rights in 1960 and had attempted to get Casino Royale made as an Eon Productions Bond film; however, Feldman and the producers of the Eon series, Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, failed to come to terms. Believing that he could not compete with the Eon series, Feldman resolved to produce the film as a satire. The budget escalated as various directors and writers became involved in the production, and actors expressed dissatisfaction with the project.
Yes he did. Painful movie to watch.
Just have RuPaul be Bond.
“...Feldman resolved to produce the film as a satire.”
My memory is not so good now, but I don’t believe I’ve ever watched the complete Casino Royale satire version. Kickass Bond movies are almost a religion to me. Satire would’ve ruined it. Although I really like David Niven as an actor.
Had a good soundtrack though, Burt Bacharach did it, including “The Look of Love”
Dalton was my favorite - heresy! - but he suffered from marginal scripts. Moore did well as The Saint but wasn’t serious enough for Bond. Brosnan was OK but all of the Bond flicks for the last 25 years have suffered from ridiculous stunts, particularly since computer graphics have taken over.
I can’t look at his pic without thinking of SNL Celeb Jeopardy.
The real crime was after he was picked to play Bond the first time, that’s why NBC decided to activate a clause in his contract. They brought Remington Steele (which they had cancelled) back for four more forgettable episodes. Brosnan had to turn down the iconic role.
Luckily, he got a chance again a few years later. Not as lucky, most of his films weren’t good.
Yes. It’s one film that Harrison Ford regrets turning down. His character didn’t have the starring role (as it would in later films).
Considering how well he played off Connery in Last Crusade, he would’ve been good in Red October.
I really liked Brosnan’s take as 007. I thought Dalton was boring so Brosnan was a step in the right direction. That being said, I think Craig is the best of them all including everyone’s sacred cow.
As a side note, Connery is the only one who had a thriving post-Bond career. I love Craig but I think he’s going to fizzle post-Bond.
Timothy Dalton was a good James Bond his scripts stunk.
