Im going to see it next week...I saw it from the air once (its visible coming into Atlanta from certain points) but I wanted to see it as it was meant to be seen, before they blow it up.
Im not from the South originally and have no special regional loyalty to these figures, but they were important figures in American history (because both sides of the Civil War were part of American history) and it just infuriates me that people want to destroy this beautiful monument.
The park is private property and they have a campground, cottages and a lodge for visitors...Im planning on driving there (about a five hour drive from where I live) and staying overnight. Im really looking forward to it.
Don't forget to take the lift to the top of the mountain, Magnificent view....
Ive seen it many times through the years......took it for granted......never thought of it not being there.
There is a famous picture of men and women dining on the very broad shoulder of Lee....
You will probably see it when you visit
Many years ago I lived in Atlanta....dated my husband in Atlanta.....
.....saw Gone With The Wind at the original theater where it was first viewed with all the celebrities
Theyve since torn it down...
Ate at Aunt Pittypats Porch.......long gone now....
Visited the home of Joel Chandler Harris.....Uncle Remus stories
So many memories
They burned Atlanta to the ground once....
....cant they leave us some memories???
It was incredible in the 1980's during the laser show when the horses would suddenly start flapping their wings and fly away.
