TMC is seeing a jump in admissions, but once again it’s the old “with Covid” vs “because of Covid” are all being counted equally. An ACL repair admission that is asymptomatic but tests positive is counted as a covid patient. In addition, the postponed elective procedures are showing up, which is why the chart “ramps” cause panic. Bottom line, their occupancy is reported approx 90%, which is where they normally are this time of year.
Looking around on their site, I can’t really find anything that clearly states how many are there “with” vs “because”. It would be great if they were more clear about that. If it’s simply a matter of “more positive cases locally = more positive cases identified within the hospital”, then obviously that’s not as big a worry (aside from the potential spread to other patients who may not fare as well if containment failed). I’m more focused on the patient population experiencing COVID-19 issues that are landing them in the hospital, but they don’t make it easy to distinguish those.
