Looking around on their site, I can’t really find anything that clearly states how many are there “with” vs “because”. It would be great if they were more clear about that. If it’s simply a matter of “more positive cases locally = more positive cases identified within the hospital”, then obviously that’s not as big a worry (aside from the potential spread to other patients who may not fare as well if containment failed). I’m more focused on the patient population experiencing COVID-19 issues that are landing them in the hospital, but they don’t make it easy to distinguish those. That is because Texas doesn’t record the difference in their data. I posted above a link that has the direct quotes from the Government official that says as much. If you go to the hospital for a broken leg from a car accident and you are found to be COVID positive you are a Covid hospitalization.
