Looking around on their site, I can’t really find anything that clearly states how many are there “with” vs “because”. It would be great if they were more clear about that. If it’s simply a matter of “more positive cases locally = more positive cases identified within the hospital”, then obviously that’s not as big a worry (aside from the potential spread to other patients who may not fare as well if containment failed). I’m more focused on the patient population experiencing COVID-19 issues that are landing them in the hospital, but they don’t make it easy to distinguish those. I’ll keep looking, and thanks for your post.

That is because Texas doesn’t record the difference in their data. I posted above a link that has the direct quotes from the Government official that says as much. If you go to the hospital for a broken leg from a car accident and you are found to be COVID positive you are a Covid hospitalization.
