Yes, he and Lear were liberals, but even then I don’t think they were so far gone, as today’s liberals are.

I was just watching a scene from All In The Family the other day, where Lionel and Meathead got into an argument because all Meathead wanted to talk about with Lionel was stuff about race. Lionel asked Meathead, “Why don’t we ever talk about the weather, black people have weather too, you know.”

I thought that was the perfect response to the typical smug white liberal.

Because the world is not politics.

If all you can see about someone is who they vote for, I feel sorry for you.

My guess is that you agreed with them on 95% of everything.

Social media has made the mind of the weak go numb.

“How can you forgive those two, their just as bad as Lear.”

First, I think you mean “they’re.”

My impression has always been that Lear’s comedy was often politically preachy. I never picked up quite the same vibe from Reiner and Brooks.

At least that’s my perception — if you don’t agree, that’s fine, thanks for responding to my post.

Brooks could be politically incorrect by today’s standards. I loved the Jewish Indians from “Blazing Saddles” along with the scene where Cleavon Little takes himself hostage at gunpoint.

As for Reiner, “The Dick Van Dyke Show” would be legacy enough for any comedy writer, even without all his other accomplishments. The relatively new medium of television poking gentle fun at itself — it’s one of those concepts that seems so simple, so obvious that we forget what a trailblazer it was at the time.

So, congratulations on a life well lived, Carl Reiner. And we forgive you for Meathead.
