It's pretty simple: If you could only buy four or five weapons, what would you get? And I'm not talking about collecting.,
Ok. No. 1: AR-15, with red dot. No. 2: Glock 19 No. 3: another one of either, or both, for your partner. The rest, mags and ammo.
My wish list would be:
Plus 1000 rounds for each weapon.
The particulars really are up to you.
My free advice would be to keep things as basic and ubiquitous as possible.
Get a reasonable amount of range time, and save your empties.
Get a basic reloading press and get set up to load your own.
Use eye and ear protection at the range, and don’t store your guns in a case.
A 20 gauge double barrel coach gun for inside the home self defense. An AR 15 or an AK 47 for all out warfare. (Increased firepower via 30 round magazines.) A 9mm semi auto pistol or a 357 revolver, your choice. A 22 long rifle that shoots 22 magnums. And just for the hell of it, and for big game shooting I.e. deer, hog, bear etc, a Marlin 30-30 because its just a cool all around rifle. Thats my 2 cents. For what its worth.
2) Smith and Wesson revolver - .38
3) 20 gauge Mossberg 8 shot shotgun
4) M4 in Nato 5.56
5) Savage Axis bolt action 30-06
Scope and trick out 4 and 5.
Practice practice practice
Mag Fed Shotgun with plenty of 12 round mags- There are few better deterrents on the planet than this.
PS90 - 50 round mags with a devastating caliber (with the correct ammo)
Pistol of choice. Probably best to own several, as a subcompact such as an LCP is not as ideal as a Glock 19. A Glock 19 is a MUST HAVE with spare 33 round magazines. Also look at the FNX45 Tactical. Large but a great gun, especially with a suppressor.
AR-15 with plenty of spare mags.
Suppressors for pistol, rifle and rimfire.
.22 for practice.
That is what I consider necessary. I have left out a 1911 and a CZ75 simply because the nature of today’s necessitates something more “tactical” in nature. 7 or 7 rounds will simply not cut it.
870 rem or 500 mossberg riot gun, a good quality 9MM pistol that fits your hands well.
Right now you can pick up a long range varmint rifle in .308 of good quality and great off the shelf accuracy for close to 1K$. Plan on putting good money into top glass too. I would look at the appropriate shepherd scope. I believe you would be looking at a P-2 if you are going to shoot 165 Gr bullets. I would also invest in a timney trigger and spend a lot of range time with it. Plan on putting abut $2600 into this rifle. This is your force multiplier so set it up right and learn how to use it and when to use it. There are short weekend classes in long range shooting around, find one and take it.
I would go with a side charge AR platform in 5.56 but try and find a good 18” fluted barrel. Barrel cooling is more important than most people believe.
