The Anglican church should rethink depictions of Jesus as a white man in traditional Christian imagery, the head of the Church of England said Friday.
Justin Welby, archbishop of Canterbury, was asked in an interview with BBC Radio 4 if the Western mindset that Jesus looked Caucasian needs to be reconsidered in light of the Black Lives Matter movement.
“Yes of course it does, this sense that God was white … You go into churches [around the world] and you don’t see a white Jesus,” he said. “You see a black Jesus, a Chinese Jesus, a Middle-Eastern Jesus — which is of course the most accurate — you see a Fijian Jesus.”
The archbishop was commenting on the belief that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, part of what’s now considered the Middle East.
As such, statues of Jesus in Canterbury Cathedral will be under review

The Anglican Church needs to learn there are certain modern ideas and hypothesis the church doesn’t necessarily need to respond to. In other words, don’t be so quick to fold and give up your principles because one or two loud/rude people say they don’t like it.

The first question to ask people who say things like this is, Do you accept the entire Bible or are there parts that should be left out today? If you don’t accept it all, what parts, specifically, do you accept? In most cases, I think you will find that the parts they leave out are much longer than the parts they will accept.
Rethink that Black Sanity Clause while you’re at it.

Well, he was a middle eastern man. I imagine you could go to Israel and see a million men who looked similar. Not exactly a black African. But not light haired, light skinned, and blue eyed.
