Mike Henry is exiting his role as Cleveland Brown on Family Guy.
Henry made the announcement Friday on Twitter. Its been an honor to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years, he wrote. I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role.
Henry has been with Family Guy its first season in 1999. In addition to Cleveland, he also voices Consuela, a Latina maid, on the long-running animated series in addition to numerous other minor characters. Henry also voiced Cleveland and his Black stepson, Rallo Tubbs, on the spin-off series The Cleveland Show, which aired on Fox for four seasons from 2009 to 2013.
He is now the latest white actor to announce they will no longer voice a character of color on an animated show. Jenny Slate announced on Wednesday that she would no longer play the biracial character Missy on the popular Netflix show Big Mouth. Not long after that, Kristen Bell announced she would be stepping down from her role as a biracial character in the upcoming Apple animated series Central Park.
Back in January, Hank Azaria said he would no longer voice the Indian character Apu on The Simpsons. Calls for Azaria, who like Brown has voiced the character for decades, to stop playing Apu intensified in 2017 after comedian Hari Kondabolu released the documentary The Problem With Apu. The doc explored how people of South Asian descent felt about growing up with Apu as one of their only representatives on American television.

Black people are just laughing at this shit.
So can we stop casting Blacks in historical movies, series and Shakespeare where they are totally anachronistic.
ridiculous
minorities have voiced white characters and characters of other ethnicities
i say it again, ridiculous
as far as apu
why didn’t any indians ever make their own characters and promote them in their own books and shows?
they don’t do anything productive on their own because tgey’d rather sit back and complain about others actually doing something while they do nothing except b1tch and moan
Hamilton?
An actors job is to portray someone else.
On TMC I was watching a movie called “The Good Earth” about Chinese farmers. 2 Caucasian actors played the Chinese characters. They were believable. That’s what acting is.
Seth McFarland needs to give up his role as Brian. Only a DOG should play a DOG character.
So for twenty years he had no problem voicing a black character? So now that he has made his money he suddenly becomes woke? He should be forced to give up any money that he has made voicing the character. He has been stealing for 20 years.
A few weeks ago I saw for the second or third time, “Troy”.
To my surprise neither Achilles or Hector were portrayed by Black Actors. Have they gone crazy? Where is a Black Helen? How dare they show them as they probably really were?
Imagine if the opposite were true. Only whites should play white characters.
Just another example of black privilege.
Oh brother.
Using this logic, only white people should be voicing white characters. Can you imagine the screaming and shrieking that would ensue if this was followed? Of course, it would be racist.
Who was the Italian guy that portrayed the Indian with a tear running down his cheek?
Maybe they can have an episode where Brian chases all the Negroes out of town.
How about Heimdall in Thor?
A Negro Nordic God...
Indians are the rudest a-holes on the planet.
Iron eyes Cody.
Seth MacFarland always was destined to be targeted. He’s a prime example of a leftist who would be eaten by his own, simply because he chose to create a funny show that ridicules most everyone and anyone in a completely politically incorrect manner. Family Guy will never be the same.
